Pension Application of
William T. Bowden, Co. F, 26th Miss

Photo by Steve Hardwick of Nashville, TN
This is the front page of a pension application I purchased at a Civil War Show some years back. Pvt. William T. Bowden initially enlisted in the 13th Miss. and later transferred to the 26th Miss. Here he was applying for $75.00 in pension due to the fact that he was an indigent having received debilitating wounds from the Civil War. He was with the 26th when he was wounded near Richmond. Note he listed his wounds as being "In foot, thigh, head & leg and side." Later in the application he states these were "Shot" wounds. He was on crutches at the time of application. This document was filed before the Chancery Clerk and the County Board of Inquiry on Sept. 8, 1916, in Bay Springs, Jasper Co, MS. Pvt. Bowden signed by the mark. There are no markings on the document stating whether it was approved.
