Company Captains of the 26th
Captains of Company A
- David M. B. Reid - Cartersville
- Elected Captain of Co. A on 8/19/61. On 3/15/62, he died of pneumonia while in prison at Camp Chase (OH).
- C. P. Malone - Cartersville
- Promoted to Captain, Co. A, on 9/17/62. On 8/3/64, he was dropped from the roll for prolonged absence without leave.
- John C. Barton - Jacinto
- Served as 1 Lieut. of Co. K and commanded the Sharpshooters of the 26th before being recommended for the Captaincy of Co. A on 8/13/64. Before his commission arrived, he was killed on the picket line in front of Petersburg on 9/16/64. He was to have taken the rank on 10/27/64. He is included here in recognition of that achievement.
Captains of Company B
- David L. Gallaher - Jacinto
- Elected Captain of Co. B on 8/19/61. He was killed in the Wilderness on 5/5/64.
Captains of Company C
- Stephen Davenport - Booneville
- Elected Captain of Co. C on 8/24/61. He resigned his commission on 8/8/63 to receive the rank of Major in command of a cavalry battalion.
- Benjamin Williams - Rienzi
- Promoted to Captain, Co. C, on 8/19/63 upon the resignation of Capt. Davenport.
Captains of Company D
- B. T. Belsher - Burnsville
- Elected Captain of Co. D on 8/20/61. He died on 2/18/62 (One records says he died in Decatur, Ala. Another says his death occurred at Franklin, Tenn.)
- John C. Walters - Burnsville
- Promoted to Captain, Co. D, on 2/16/62. He resigned on 1/10/63 due to poor health.
- Henderson Dunahoo - Burnsville
- Promoted to Captain, Co. D, in January 1863 (One record says he took the rank on 6/18/63). He was killed at the Battle of Cold Harbor on 6/2/64.
Captains of Company E
- James G. Sharp - Corinth
- Elected Captain of Co. E on 8/24/61. He resigned on 10/20/63 due to disabling health (Chronic Bronchitis).
- Daniel Thaddeus Beall - Rienzi
- Promoted to Captain, Co. E, on 11/14/63. He served in this position through the balance of the war.
Captains of Company F
- Henry C. Hyneman - Corinth
- Elected Captain of Co. F on 9/1/61. He resigned on 7/15/63 due to physical disability (Lingering problems from a wound received at Ft. Donelson). He died on 7/18/63.
- Philip Hay - Corinth
- Promoted to Captain, Co. F, on 7/19/63 after the death of Capt. Hyneman. He was killed on 8/18/64 at the Battle of Weldon Railroad.
- George W. Bigham - Corinth
- Promoted to Captain, Co. F, on 9/1/64 upon the death of Capt. Hay.
Captains of Company G
- Tully F. Parker - Marietta
- Elected Captain of Co. G on 8/16/61. He resigned after being elected Major of the 26th Miss on 9/10/61.
- Albert E. Earley - Marietta
- Promoted to Captain, Co. G, after Parker was promoted to Major on 9/10/61.
Captains of Company H
- James Files Gresham - Bay Springs
- Elected Captain of Co. H on 8/16/61. He resigned on 9/10/61 to be appointed Quartermaster of the regiment.
- W. A. H. Shackleford - Bay Springs
- Elected Captain, Co. H, on 9/19/61. He resigned on 8/22/63 due to poor health (Records cite: Chronic Hepatitis & Chronic Rheumatism).
- Robert J. Moore - Bay Springs
- Promoted to Captain, Co. H, on 8/22/63. He was captured at Hatcher's Run on 4/2/65.
Captains of Company I
- Madison Theodore Burton - Tupelo
- Elected Captain of Co. I on 10/1/61. After a prolonged sickness, he was furloughed home on 9/13/64.
Captains of Company K
- Benjamin Kizer - Marietta
- Transferred from Co. G to be elected Captain of Co. K at its organization on 11/26/61. He was captured at Hatcher's Run on 4/2/65.
